CENTRAL MARKET ARCADE REDEVELOPMENT
Proud to have been part of this major project which is a once-in-a-generation opportunity. The City of Adelaide has partnered with ICD as a development partner for the $400 million redevelopment of Central Market Arcade.
The iconic Central Market will remain the same but will be further complimented with the Arcade Redevelopment that will provide an opportunity to grow the retail offering, secure the future of the market district through a central hall, public rooftop garden, child care centre, hotel, apartments and offices. Once complete we would have created better access through Victoria Square, Grote Street and Gouger Street.
Market Square is expected to generate an overall boost of $135 million to the SA economy.
88 O’CONNELL
One of my election promises was to ensure we developed the 30 years vacant “Le Cornu” site.
Commercial & General has been selected by the City of Adelaide to bring 88 O’Connell site back to life. The reputable developer is a local resident that views this development as a legacy project.
The $250 million mixed-use development including retail, commercial and residential offerings and almost 400 off street carparks over 3 basement levels. The development includes new open spaces for the community to foster a community connection that we have grown to love on the site. Elected members worked closely to try and achieve all of the guiding principles however the height has caused some concerns for some residents.
Unfortunately it was not commercially viable for a developer to build within the requested 8 stories limit and the concern would be that if we did not come to a compromise the development would not go ahead and resulted in the site remaining vacant putting further pressure on the future of O’Connell Street.
MAIN STREETS BUSINESSES TO GET A CASH BOOST
As part of my commitment to support small businesses I welcomed a new grant program to help with the recovery post COVID to help support grants up to $10,000 to enhance and activate their outdoor areas to help drive patronage and support jobs.
NORTHERN PARK 2 FACE LIFT
In partnership with the State Government we upgraded the tennis courts, BBQ area, outdoor exercise facility, planted new tress, entry statement plantings, improved shared paths, pedestrian lighting and new road surface. A beautiful facility for the local community to enjoy a picnic, exercise and enjoy a hit of tennis.
Cyclists and pedestrians can enjoy the new paths and lighting making this route through the park lands safe. This is another example of the commitment to ensuring that I would ensure we continue upgrade public areas and have the park lands as community space for all to enjoy.
SKATE PARK IN THE CITY
Located on the corner of West Terrace and Glover Avenue, the new City Skate Park will create an inviting, family-friendly community hub, offering a broad range of recreational and social experiences for all skill levels and disciplines.
The City Skate Park will integrate with the Adelaide park lands and be a wonderful dedicated space for skating and other recreational activities for the whole community. Another example of making sure that my position as an elected member approves projects that bring the community together.
